I posted the first interactive content on my web site today, the 360° view of a screw dislocation. The viewer can choose either cubes or spheres as the building blocks, or reduce the building blocks to dots and view the screw dislocation as a helicoid surface.

This blog is about my exploration of using digital media to visualize interesting topics in scientific research and education. The digital media can simplify be still images such as illustrations and photographs, or it can be videos, animations, and even interactive contents. A lot of my previous efforts have been put on still images, such as The 20 Plates project. From now on, I will shift my focus to animations and interactive media.

When creating the scientific visualizations with digital media, I try to achieve 3 goals.

1. They should make complicated topics easy to understand.
2. They should engage the viewers.
3. They should prove science is beautiful.
